Licensing Requirements
To qualify for licensing as an ophthalmic dispenser, a candidate must obtain the Basic, Advanced, and Practical Certifications of both the American Board of Opticianry and the National Contact Lens Examiners, and pass a mail-in Nevada Laws and Ethics Exam.
ABO/NCLE Registration Information
Registration for the Advanced Exams can be completed online
You may require special approval to register for the Advanced Exams. All Nevada licensed Apprentices are eligible to register for the ABO and
NCLE Exams. Please contact the ABO with your name and license number
and let them know you are registering in order to obtain your Nevada
Ophthalmic Dispenser License. Those who
are not licensed as an Apprentices must submit a complete Ophthalmic
Dispenser License Application or Special License Application before the
Board will approve their registration for the Advanced or Practical
Exams
You must pass a Nevada Laws and Ethics Exam to qualify for licensing. Once an candidate has passed all required certifying exams and submitted
a complete application to the Board, the Board will issue the Nevada
Laws and Ethics Exam by mail. The Law and Ethics exam is an
open-book exam which must be completed by hand and returned to the Board
office by mail before your license will be issued. The exam covers the
rules and regulations encompassed in Chapters
637 of the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
